Lamar Jackson wants to know his true worth as an NFL QB. On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens gave him that chance.
After months of fruitless negotiations, Baltimore decided to tag Jackson a non-exclusive franchise, meaning he can now go out and negotiate his next deal with 31 franchises. Other NFL. Then Raven can simply match the offer, or they can let Jackson walk and take two first-round picks from whichever team Jackson picks. The non-exclusive card also allows other brands to discuss subscription and transaction options for Jackson. It’s a complicated situation that allows the 26-year-old former MVP QB to be released essentially on the open market, a real rarity in the NFL. It’s still possible that Jackson is Baltimore’s QB in September, but those odds have certainly taken a toll after the franchise deadline.
Which brings us to today’s test. Lamar is the king of mobile QBs. He’s the only signal caller to cross the 1,000-yard dash twice and all five of his seasons have been in the top 25 for fastest yards by a QB.
