Longtime NFL CEO Gives Big Rams Update ‘Matthew Stafford

Longtime NFL CEO Michael Lombardi said Thursday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that the Los Angeles Rams have been in contact with teams about trying to move quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The former Cleveland Browns general manager added that while the Rams will have a hard time moving Stafford “because he’s guaranteed $57 million” on his current contract, he’s “absolutely willing.”

Insider Matthew Berry reported Tuesday that he was told during a recent NFL matchup that Stafford was “barely able to throw last year.” Berry’s source also told him that “retirement is still not out of the question” for the former first draft master pick.

Stafford was limited to nine games and did not play through Week 11 of the 2022 season due to a spinal injury but said in December he would not retire. The 35-year-old had a career-high 68.0% completion rate last year, but his other numbers are way too low.

Stafford finished the season with 2,087 yards of passes and just 10 touchdowns to eight interceptions, while a midfield tally of 87.4 (87.4) was his worst run since 2014.
