Grizzlies win hard against Mavs, 112-108

Desmond Bane scored 25 points and rookie David Roddy added a season-high 24 to help hosts the Memphis Grizzlies win 112-108 over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday in the opening game of the home series.

Bane added 8 assists and 7 rebounds, while Roddy sank 4 3-pointers for the Grizzlies, who won 2 games in a row after 3 skis.

The teams will convene again in Dallas on Monday night.

Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr. got 14 points and 7 bounces, and Xavier Tillman got 12 and 8 respectively.

Tyus Jones added 11 points and 10 assists for the Grizzlies, who played their fourth game in a row without Ja Morant. The star has left the club after posting a video on social media last weekend in which he appeared to display a gun at a Denver-area nightclub.

Dallas’ Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 23 points and rookie Jaden Hardy added 22 points. Josh Green scored 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks, the team playing without stars Luka Doncic (left thigh) and Kyrie Irving (right foot pain).

Hardy’s three-pointer made it a 104-104 draw with 2:05 remaining in the fourth inning before Dillon Brooks hit a free throw to regain the lead for the Grizzlies. Bane then took a 3-pointer and Jones made four free throws to effectively seal the victory.

Green took three pointers to extend the Mavericks’ lead to 88-77 early in the fourth half before the Grizzlies counter-attacked 16-6 to pull in the first round. Hardaway stopped the rise by sinking his fourth 3-pointer.

Dallas erased a six-point deficit after halftime by overtaking Memphis 33-21 in the third inning to take an 83-77 lead. Hardaway marked the surge by scoring 13 points in the quarter.

Bane scored 17 points from a 6/9 shot from the floor to give the Grizzlies a 56-50 lead after halftime. Memphis has a powerful 54.5% long-range shot despite only making four of his 20 attempts from three-pointers.
